How LP10 Checks Local Businesses

Clear checks. Dated evidence. Useful local shortlists.

LP10 uses AI-assisted research to compare the public information behind local trade businesses. Our aim is to help customers understand who offers the work they need, where they operate and what evidence supports their inclusion in a local guide.

What “LP10 AI Checked” means

The label means the checks explicitly listed beside a business have been completed using dated public sources. It is not a guarantee of workmanship, insurance, qualifications or availability. A business under research does not receive the badge. Missing evidence is marked “not confirmed”, never treated as a pass.

Our checks

  • Identity and contact consistency: compare the trading name, website, telephone and public location across the business website and independent listings. Check Google Business Profile directly where accessible; otherwise say it was not confirmed. Different tracking numbers or trading names require explanation, not automatic rejection.
  • Contact routes: inspect phone links and available enquiry routes. A visible phone number does not prove the business answers. We only describe responsiveness as tested when a real, authorised contact test has taken place.
  • Local relevance: look for explicit coverage of the featured town and evidence of local work. Distinguish a local base from a business travelling into the area. Mobile traders do not need to publish their home address.
  • Service match: confirm the exact work advertised. A builder is not automatically an electrician, roofer or plumber.
  • Review relevance: read the available feedback for mentions of the service being featured, dates, recurring themes and business responses. Record the platform and distinguish independent reviews from testimonials displayed on the business website.
  • Work evidence: look for relevant project descriptions and photographs. Images alone do not prove who carried out the work; stock images do not count as completed-job evidence.
  • Credentials: where a service needs a relevant registration, check the appropriate official register and scope before calling that credential verified. Website badges and company registration alone do not establish competence or insurance.
  • Conflicts: investigate inconsistent identities, contact details and unsupported claims. Unresolved material conflicts prevent an AI Checked badge.

How our top-five guides are selected

Each guide is an LP10 editorial shortlist drawn from the businesses researched for that trade and town, not a claim that we have inspected every provider. We prioritise clear service and area fit, consistent contact details and relevant customer feedback. We explain why each business was selected and what remains unconfirmed. The five are presented without an unsupported first-to-fifth quality ranking.

We publish a top-five selection only when five businesses have sufficient supporting evidence. Research lists remain unpublished until then. We retain the same guide URL when the selection changes and show the actual review date. An overdue review is not presented as a fresh check.

Independent listings, membership and paid services

A business can be researched without being an LP10 member. An unclaimed mention does not mean the owner has joined or agreed to accept LP10 bookings. Provider membership has its own evidence requirements, including the work-van evidence requested on our application page. Buying a listing enhancement or website does not buy editorial selection or a checking badge. Any sponsored placement must be clearly labelled. Relevant connections to LP10 are disclosed.

Should your business be considered?

Submit your business for review. In the details box, write “Top five review” and include your trade, town, website, public Google Business Profile link, business telephone and links to relevant work examples and reviews. Follow the application page’s van-photo requirements if applying to join as a provider. Existing account holders can sign in. Submission does not guarantee inclusion.

To request a correction or challenge a selection, use the same form and start the details with “Listing correction”. Include the page URL, the disputed detail and a supporting public source. Do not submit customer addresses or private documents in public links. Email notifications are currently being repaired; do not rely on receiving an email acknowledgement.
