A new cooker, oven or induction hob may not be a simple swap. The electrician needs the exact appliance specification, the existing connection and circuit information, and the kitchen layout before confirming what is required.
Send the appliance details first
Provide the manufacturer, model number, product link and installation instructions. The stated electrical rating and connection requirements matter more than the appliance’s outside dimensions. If an oven and hob are separate, list both products.
Photograph the existing arrangement safely
Take photographs of the current appliance position, visible isolation switch and consumer unit with covers left closed. State whether an old appliance is still connected and who will disconnect, remove, fit and test each part of the replacement.
Explain layout changes
If the new appliance moves position, include the old and proposed locations, cabinet plan, wall and floor finish and access beneath or behind units. Electrical work, cabinet alteration, worktop cutting and gas disconnection are separate responsibilities and should be assigned clearly.
Quote checklist
- Exact model and manufacturer instructions.
- Whether it is a cooker, single oven, double oven or hob.
- Existing appliance and visible connection arrangement.
- Consumer-unit photograph with the cover closed.
- Old and new positions.
- Kitchen installation date and access.
- Who supplies, removes and fits the appliance.
- Any faults, heat damage or previous tripping.
Common questions
Can the delivery driver always connect the appliance?
Do not assume so. Confirm the retailer’s installation limits and arrange an electrician where the product, circuit or proposed work requires one.
Can a new induction hob use the old connection?
Only after the electrician checks the new product requirements and the existing circuit, isolation and connection arrangement.
Who alters the kitchen cabinet or worktop?
Agree this separately. An electrician handles electrical scope; carpentry, worktop cutting, plumbing or gas work may require other competent trades.
