A scaffolding price in Surrey depends on the access solution, not simply the width of the house. The same elevation may need a basic working platform for painting, additional lifts for roof work, a bridged section over an extension, protection around a conservatory or a temporary roof. A quote becomes more meaningful when the scaffolder knows what work will happen and where people need to stand.
Scaffolding is safety-critical. It should be designed, erected, altered and dismantled by competent people using an appropriate safe system. The provider must assess the site and confirm what is suitable; photographs support that process but do not replace any required inspection.
What changes the cost of scaffolding?
Building height and elevations
State the approximate number of storeys and which faces of the building need access. Front, rear, side and chimney work should be listed separately. Include extensions, bay windows, dormers and changes in roof level.
The work being carried out
Painting, rendering, guttering, window work, repointing, roof replacement, chimney repairs and solar installation may require different platform positions, loading and protection. Ask the contractor doing the main work to describe the access they require.
Ground and restricted access
Photograph the surfaces where standards may stand, plus side passages, gates, walls, sheds, conservatories and neighbouring land. Sloping, soft or obstructed ground may change the proposed arrangement. Mention whether materials can reach the work area from the road without passing through the property.
Public highway and permissions
If any part could stand on or project over a pavement or road, permissions and protective measures may be relevant. Boundaries, shared access and neighbouring property also need to be identified. Do not assume these matters are included: ask who will arrange them and how they affect timing and cost.
Hire period and programme
Give the intended erection date, expected duration and whether other contractors have fixed dates. Ask what hire period is included, how extensions are charged and how quickly the structure can be altered or collected after the work is complete.

How to compare two scaffolding quotes
Check that both cover the same elevations, number of lifts, access requirements, protection, design assumptions, erection date and hire duration. Confirm whether alterations, permits, inspections and collection are included or separately charged. The cheapest total is not comparable if it describes a smaller or different structure.

Photographs can support an initial quotation, but the provider decides whether a site visit, measurements or design input are required before confirming the arrangement.
Who decides how many working lifts are needed?
The access requirement should be agreed between the relevant contractors and the scaffolding provider, based on the work and safe system needed.
