Painting kitchen cabinets can change the room without replacing every unit, but the result depends heavily on the door material, existing coating and preparation. Start with an inventory rather than a single kitchen photograph.
Count every component
List doors, drawer fronts, end panels, plinths, cornices, open shelves and visible cabinet frames. Show damaged edges, peeling coatings and areas close to heat, sinks or dishwashers.
Identify material and finish
State whether the doors appear to be solid timber, veneered, painted, wrapped or laminated. If uncertain, say so. The decorator should confirm whether the surface is suitable, what preparation is proposed and whether spraying, rolling or brushing will be used.
Plan removal and access
Agree whether doors and handles will be removed, where preparation and coating happen, how the kitchen remains usable and who protects worktops, floors and appliances. New handles or hinge changes may require a carpenter or kitchen fitter.
